ADMK and DMK are the major political forces in Tamil Nadu. Over past 50 years since 1967, both these parties ruled the state and dominated the political spectrum. BJP is emerging as the major player in Tamil Nadu. Recently local body elections were held, BJP won many seats across the state.

Panchayat Union President elections were held indirectly, interesting point to note is ADMK and DMK joined hands to defeat BJP in many places emphasising the fact that they see BJP as a imminent threat to their dominance over Tamil Nadu politics.

Take for example this case of Rajakamangalam Panchayat Union President election in Kanyakumari District. The Panchayat Union has a total of 15 wards. BJP won 6 wards(BJP contested 6 in ADMK alliance & won 6/6), ADMK won 4 wards(ADMK contested 9 & won 4/9), DMK won 3 wards, NTK won 1 ward and Independent won one ward.

Ethically, BJP should have won the President seat as a part of pre-poll alliance with ADMK. But ADMK with DMK - NTK joined hands to defeat BJP by acquiring Rajakamangalam Panchayat Union's President seat. ADMK, DMK and NTK had 8 wards whereas BJP had 6 wards. BJP is setting its foot strong in Tamil Nadu slowly.

Take another case of Annur Panchayat Union Vice President election in Coimbatore District. While the President position was won by ADMK with BJP's support here, for the Vice President position it was fight between BJP and DMK. While BJP candidate should've been easily elected with 9 wards in kitty, BJP polled only 4 votes. DMK won the Vice President position with 5 ADMK wards voting for DMK instead of their alliance BJP candidate.

Therefore it becomes clear that the days are not far when DMK & ADMK might join hands as and when BJP gets powerful in the state, like it happened in Uttar Pradesh with arch rivals BSP & SP joining hands & in Bihar where JDU and RJD joined hands to defeat the BJP.
