United Nation Security Council foiled the attempts of Pakistan and China to make Kashmir an international issue.
Pakistan is continuously showing its protest against the Indian government's drastic cancellation of its special status given to Jammu and Kashmir and the bifurcation of the former state into two Union territories. Pakistan appealed to UN on this issue. China backed Pakistan and urged the Security Council to consult on the Kashmir issue. The consultation was held in a closed room at the head office of United Nations in New York. Thus, Pakistan and China tried to project
Kashmir as an international issue.
In UNSC meet, only China displayed its support to Pakistan. Countries including Russia supported India. Pakistan and China's attempt failed as more countries said Kashmir is India's internal affair and there is no requirement to discuss it in United Nations Security Council. Indian Representative to the UN, Syed Akbaruddin said that Kashmir is completely India's internal affairs. United Nations Security Council even praised India's efforts to restore peace in Kashmir.
