Yesterday at the Chennai Egmore Court, a strange event that was supposed to darken the eyes of the judiciary was brilliantly evaded by Central Government's Solicitor General.
The Income Tax Department has filed a case against Karthi Chidambaram and his wife for failing to show income of Rs 7.73 crore from land sales in Mudukkadu village next to Chennai. The case came up for hearing at the Egmore Court in Chennai yesterday.
Judge Anita Sumanth sought to investigate the case. She was the lawyer in Karthik Chidambaram's firm Advantage Strategic Consulting Pvt Ltd. A lawyer who appeared on behalf of the Central Government informed the Chief Justice about this matter. Justice Anita Sumanth acknowledged her earlier position and agreed to transfer the hearing to another judge. The case was later remanded for another judge's session.
But the Tamil media has changed the matter in a different way. Media published as if Justice voluntarily transferred the case.
