Final National Register of Citizens (NRC) was released for
Assam few days back and nearly 19 Lakh people were excluded from the final
list. The initial draft that was released last year excluded 40 Lakhs people
but the exclusion went down till 19 Lakhs in the final list. There is strong demand
from many to carry out NRC again in Assam as many feel that the exclusion is
not complete. This was also echoed by BJP’s state Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
At the same time, there is also a strong demand for NRC to be carried out in
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that as
carried out in Assam, NRC will also be carried out in Haryana.
CM Khattar said, “I talked to Justice Bhalla about the NRC
exercise. He is going on a tour of Assam to study NRC data. His services would
be useful for compiling the NRC in Haryana”. He also said the government is
rapidly working on the family identity card and the data collected from this
process could be used in the NRC exercise.
As the presence of illegal immigrants is there in almost
every state, many throughout the country are demanding to implement NRC throughout
the country. Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh also voiced for NRC in his
state. As many Indian states are voicing for NRC, there are high chances for
NRC to be implemented throughout India in the upcoming years.
