With reports of liquor being stolen from TASMAC shops coming in, the state administration on Saturday decided to shift the alcoholic beverages these to government godowns. The move came after the police received several complaints about TASMAC shops being raided by locals.

In Trichy, 2 shops were looted by locals and liquor worth 1 lakh was stolen. In another incident in Coimbatore, over 300 liquor bottles and Rs 20,000 cash were reported to be stolen.

The administration is having a tough time in dealing with the scenario. Some of the shops do not have CCTV cameras and hence tracing the miscreants becomes impossible. It would be a mammoth task to shift the liquor from thousands of TASMAC outlets to government godowns.

Liquor shops were shut by Tamil Nadu government following the nation-wide lockdown on March 24.
