With 43 fresh cases of COVID-19 reporting yesterday, the Tamil Nadu government has decided to not ease the lockdown in the state until May 3. As of now, the total cases in the state totals to 1520 with 1406 active cases. The death stands at 17.

The decision to not relax the lockdown came down after a meeting of the State Disaster Management Authority chaired by CM Edappadi K Palaniswami. This means that no industry except for essential services like agriculture, health, etc would be allowed to function in the state.

The SDMA felt that the lockdown has to continue without any relaxation due to the prevailing conditions. The SDMA sought the views of the 21 member expert committee tasked with the formulation of the exit strategy. However, it mentioned that if the severity of the spread of COVID-19 declines, a decision would be taken after receiving the report of the expert committee.
