Meanwhile, this is what China has been upto
To satisfy its population's appetite for seafood, the Chinese trawlers are illegally fishing in what is exclusively Indonesia's waters to fish.

While the world grapples with the Chinese virus pandemic with the number of cases touching a million bringing several countries to its knees, China is doing what it does best – encroaching, be it land or on the sea. Chinese trawlers escorted by Chinese coast guard ships are raiding the rich waters off the Natuna Islands in the South China Sea for fish, the area that is recognized as exclusive territory for Indonesia to fish. These trawlers scoop everything from the bottom and are destroying the marine life of the region. Not only is this activity a breach of maritime borders but is also an act of environmental terrorism.
However, the Indonesian government chooses to look the other side fearing that raising the issue might offend its largest trading partner. The Indonesian officials have been downplaying the incursions by the Chinese trawlers. The Indonesian Fisheries Ministry have even denied the incursions. But the aggressive behaviour of the Chinese is making the fishermen of the Natuna Islands feel vulnerable. They are also puzzled about why their government is not helping them.
It seems that the Wuhan virus outbreak hasn't put a pause on Chinese notoriety. China's illegal fishing in the region needs to be seen as part of its claims to the entire South China Sea through which a third of the world's trade passes. The 9 dash line that it considers to be its maritime border infringes upon the sovereignty of other countries in the region such as Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, Taiwan and Brunei.
President of Indonesia Joko Widodo when he visited the Natuna Islands said that "There is no bargaining when it comes to your sovereignty". However, immediately after he left the Natunas, Chinese ships came again, with the backing of the Chinese coast guards. It is quite apparent that the Chinese are intruding in the South China Sea in its endeavour to establish its maritime claims. Looks like they're hungry for everything!
