Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy said that the government would give recommendations to constitute a separate court to carry out investigation of rape and molestation related cases. Chennai High Court Chief Justice Tahilramani inaugurated the District Judicial and Criminal Justice court at Edappadi, Salem district in the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy. Madras High Court Judges Sundaresh, Ilandarayanan and Tamil Nadu Law Minister CV Shanmugam were also present in the event.

Prosecutors from Edappadi and surrounding villages had to go to the Sankagiri court, about 30 kilometers from their residing villages but the opening of this new court had eased their travel.

Nearly 50 percent of existing cases in Sankagiri courts will be transferred to this court once the new court begins to operate. Speaking at the occasion, Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy said that over the last eight years, a sum of Rs 1,000 crore has been allocated to improve the judicial infrastructure in the state.
