Chennai is facing drinking water crisis for past five months as lakes such as Poondi, Puzhal, Semparambakkam and Cholavaram have dried up because of failure of monsoon in the last season.

As the water from the Andhra Pradesh Kandaleru Dam has not
been opened to Tamil Nadu, the Krishna River has not been able to get water to Poondi
lake and hence this lake dried up completely.

Hence, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy
instructed ministers Jayakumar and SP Velumani to go to Andhra Pradesh to get
water from Krishna.

Accordingly, Ministers Jayakumar, SP Velumani and two other
officials went to Andhra Pradesh and they met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister
Jaganmohan Reddy and urged him to open the Krishna River waters to Chennai.

Tamil Nadu didn’t receive the 12 TMC water last year that it
should receive every year from Andhra Pradesh. No water was released this year
too. Hence, these ministers requested Andhra Pradesh CM to release Krishna
water for Chennai drinking water purposes.
