DMK, Congress and Communist of Sengottai demands that Ganesha Chaturthi processions should pass only through Hindu Areas

Update: 2019-09-01 16:21 GMT

Office bearers of DMK, Indian National Congress and Communist
Party of India of Senkottai town in Tamil Nadu had written a letter to the
district collector of Tirunelveli asking to reduce the number of Ganesha idol
processions in Senkottai to just one. They claim that more number of idols will
result in disruption of peace and hence the celebration should be restricted to
just one idol.

The letter also demands that the procession should pass through Hindu areas, meaning that it shouldn’t pass through Muslim Majority areas. This is seen by common Hindus as blatant discrimination as it denies the fundamental rights of Hindus living in Muslim Majority areas to celebrate their festival in their very own area.

As the DMK, Congress and Communists feel that peace will be disrupted if the celebration is down with just one idol; the right way is to demand more police protection so that peace, law and order won’t be disturbed. DMK and its allies demanding to restrict the number of idols are seen as a denial of fundamental rights of the Hindu community.

Social media users are expressing their concerns over this stand of DMK, Congress and Communists on this issue. This adds to the anti-Hindu image of DMK that is gaining prominence in recent months.
