Majority of Kashmiris convinced with the scrapping of Special Status - NSA Ajit Doval
National
Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval on Saturday said the role of Army in the
Kashmir Valley was only limited to fight against the terror and the public
order issues would be taken care by Police and central forces.
NSA Ajit Doval also gave
his comments about the arrest of Jammu and Kashmir political leaders and said
that these detentions were made only within the legal framework.
''They are in preventive detention
till environment is created for democracy to function, which will happen soon'',
Ajit Doval said.
He dismissed the rumors about
sedition charges and criminal offence charges made on the arrested leaders and
also said that their detention can be challenged in Courts. Doval also
explained the necessity to impose restrictions in the Jammu and Kashmir after
the scrapping of special status.
"It was done to maintain the law
and order in the state. There were gatherings and terrorists would have used
the situation. 92.5 per cent of the geographical area of Jammu and Kashmir is
free of restrictions ''
Doval said.
Doval who had an interaction
with selected journalists said that only 10 out of the 199 police districts in all
three areas of Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh now have prohibitory orders and the
land-line telephones have got restored 100 per cent in all three areas.
Importantly, Doval made a
claim that he was completely convinced that a majority of Kashmiris provide support
to the scrapping of Article 370. He told that Kashmiris see bigger
opportunities, a better future and increase in jobs for youths of Jammu and
Kashmir.
"There
is a vocal minority that opposes it. It appears to people that that is the
voice of the people. That is not necessarily true," NSA Ajit Doval stated to journalists
from both Indian and foreign media.
