Tamil Nadu government gives huge boost for the manufacturing of electric vehicles
Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy has released a policy to promote electric vehicle production in Tamil Nadu. Various concessions have been announced for electric vehicles including a complete refund of SGST.
Government of Tamil Nadu has decided to attract Rs 50,000 crore investment in the field of electric vehicles. It also planned to create one and a half million jobs based on this industry. Based on this, Tamil Nadu Government has formulated policies for the next 10 years to encourage the production and use of electric vehicles.
The policy book launch happened at Tamil Nadu government's Secretariat and was released by Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy. The Government of Tamil Nadu has announced various concessions to promote the production and usage of automotive vehicles. Motorcycles, electric mini buses, electric three-wheelers and electric light vehicles will be exempted from 100% motor vehicle tax exemption until the end of 2022.
The state government has said that till 2030, the state freight and service charges on electric vehicles manufactured and sold in Tamil Nadu will be refunded completely.
Government of Tamil Nadu has announced that it will set up electric vehicle manufacturing industries in areas having potential to attract investments in this electric vehicle industry.
Totally, there are 21,000 state owned buses. 5% of these 21,000 buses will be replaced with electric buses every year. Attempts are also being made to shift autos to get electrically operated in cities such as Chennai, Coimbatore, Trichy, Madurai, Salem and Pondicherry.
