2 Sadhus lynched to death, liberal gang silent because victims are saffron clad Hindu saints

On the night of April 16, two Sadhus belonging to the Juna Akhada namely Swami Kalpawriksha Giri and Swami Sushil Giri were lynched to death by a mob. The incident came to light only after the videos of the gruesome attack went viral on social media yesterday.

In one of the video, an old man bleeding from his head and clad in saffron can be seen being escorted by a cop out of a building while a crowd outside waits with sticks. As he tries to latch on to the policeman, the latter releases himself and walks away. The Sadhu is then surrounded by a mob that mercilessly hit him hard and pin him to the ground with thrashings as the police stood as mute spectators letting the horrific act play.

In another video, one of the Sadhus can be seen running to save his life and trying to latch on to the policeman. But the cop releases himself and walks away, leaving the Sadhu to the mob. At around 42 seconds into the video, one can hear someone from the crowd saying "Maar, Shoaib Maar!" (Hit him Shoaib, Hit him!).

Details of the Incident

It is said that the Sadhus who were on their way from Mumbai to Gujarat to give Samadhi to another Sadhu. They were stopped at Gadakchinchale village by a frenzied crowd of more than a 100 people. The police claims that their team which had rushed to the spot to rescue the 70-year-old man also came under the attack of the violent mob. The Sadhu community say that village is dominated by Christians while some are Muslims. Some even say that the police, out of fear of those people handed over the Sadhus to the mob which later beat up those Sadhus to death with sticks. Also it is being reported that, when the tribals of a particular religion started beating up the Sadhus, the police did not intervene.

More than a 100 people arrested

On Sunday, the authorities filed an FIR against the villagers and arrested 110 people that includes 9 juveniles. 101 have been sent to judicial custody till April 30 while the juveniles have been sent to juvenile shelter home. Former Maharashtra CM and current Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis came down heavily on the Shiv Sena – NCP – Congress government under Uddhav Thackerey. He demanded that a high level enquiry be done action be taken at the earliest.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath too telephoned CM Uddhav Thackerey to inquire about the incident and called for strict action to be taken.
