CM announces ₹1000 aid for 8.2 lakh unorganized sector workers

Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Thursday announced that over 8.2 lakh workers who have registered as members of various labour welfare boards would be given a cash assistance of ₹1000.

Transgender persons, fishermen, conservancy workers, tribal person, nomadic tribes, small traders, hawkers, artisans, film industry daily wage labourers are set to benefit from the scheme. Apart from these workers, those attached to the ESI would also be benefitting.

Across the state, disbursal of ₹1000 and food rations have started to those holding ration cards (rice card). Amma Unavagams across the state are providing 3 meals a day free of cost. Mobile Amma Unavagams have also started plying. The Chennai Corporation has also launched mobile retail outlets for buying essentials like rice, dal, oil, vegetables, etc to decongest markets and ensure social distancing.
