Union Home Minister Amit
Shah addressing a seminar on NRC in West Bengal assured that the Central
government will extend the National Register of Citizens also to the state of
West Bengal but before implementing NRC in the state, he said that the
Citizenship (amendment) Bill will be passed to provide Indian citizenship to
all Hindu, Sikh, Jain and Buddhist refugees.

NRC was earlier implemented in Assam. Following this
implementation, there is a consistent demand from various sections of people to
implement NRC in other states as well.

Amit Shah said, "People of West Bengal are misinformed
about the NRC. I assure all Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, Jain refugees that
there is no need for them to leave the country and they will be granted Indian
citizenship and can enjoy all the rights of an Indian citizen" he said.

However, Home Minister Amit Shah asserted that all
infiltrators will be thrown out of the country. Amit Shah also praised Prime
Minister Narendra Modi for removing the special status to Jammu and Kashmir and
said that it fulfilled the complete integration of Jammu and Kashmir with
India.

He also referred to Syama Prasad Mookerjee, the founder
of BJP’s parent party Jana Sangh, and said that West Bengal is at present part
of India Union due to the sacrifices of Syama Prasad Mookerjee.
