Lionel Messi Claims A Record Sixth Ballon d’Or To Etch His Name In History

Monday the 2^nd of December saw a
fresh piece of history being written into the footballing books as Argentina
and Barcelona’s forward Lionel Messi who is widely regarded as the greatest to
ever play the game won his sixth Ballon d’Or trophy to go down in history as
the player to have received the prestigious individual trophy on the most
number of occasions.

The coveted trophy which is given out by
France Football on an annual basis, sees football journalists from around the
world voting for a player who has put out the best performance in the past 12
months. Messi, who was previously tied with Cristiano Ronaldo in the list with
both players being on the receiving end five times each, just surpassed his
arch rival this year claiming the sixth ballon d’or award in his career to move
forward and become the footballer with the most number of ballons d’or in the
history of the game.
