Prime Minister Narendra Modi is known for
effective implementation of hugely beneficial public welfare projects. The
success of Swachh Bharath which materialized because of Prime Minister's intent
to make India Open defecation free is one such example. India faced huge
scarcity in electricity before 2014 but after the implantation of various power
projects by PM Modi, India is expected to become electricity surplus soon.

Similar to the public welfare schemes in
previous term, Prime Minister Modi announced his new ambitious project few
months back, which is to supply tap water to every household in India and it is
reported that this project may cost a humongous amount of Rs 7.88 lakh crore.
This estimate comes from the various project reports that were submitted by the
states to Jal Shakti Ministry and this report also considered the fact that the
percentage of present coverage of piped water in India is 18%.

As this ambitious project requires huge funding, Modi
government is looking at innovative ways to finance this project through the
methods such as public-private partnership (PPP) and hybrid annuity model,
which worked effectively in the roadways sector.

The government shows immense confidence in implementing
this project despite the requirement of huge funding and it should be noted
that Swachh Bharath project to construct toilets in every household required
similar funding and the government is able to successfully implement it.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s second term government has
given vital importance to water and also has launched various projects to
ensure water availability and water conservation throughout India. To address
water issues, Modi government also created a new Ministry called Jal Shakti Ministry.
