More than 31 crore poor get ₹28,256 crores within a span of 2 weeks
The package comprising of 2 components is the world’s largest food and financial security measures taken by a country in the wake of COVID-19.

As of 10th April, a total of 31.77 crore people belonging to the lower socio-economic strata have received a financial assistance worth ₹28,256 crores under the Pradhan Mantri Graib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKY). Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on 26th March had announced a ₹1.7 lakh crores financial package to protect the poor and vulnerable sections from the impact of the lockdown.
The package comprising of 2 components – PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana to ensure food security and PM Garib Kalyan Dhan Yojana for financial security is the world's largest food and financial security measures taken by a country in the wake of COVID-19.
Here is a break-up of the beneficiaries:
• A total of ₹9930 crores have been deposited in 19.86 crore (97%) women account holders of Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana
• Through the National Social Assistance Programme for aged widows, Divyang and senior citizens, 2.82 crore people (100%) have received cash transfer worth ₹1405 crores.
• Under the PM KISAN schemes for farmers, 6.93 crores out of a total of 8 crore beneficiaries have received an amount totalling to ₹13, 855 crores.
• 2.16 crore people working as construction workers and labourers have received a total of ₹3066 crores.
