Russia expressed its
support to India's move on Jammu and Kashmir, saying that the modifications
that are done in the status quo of Kashmir are within the framework of the
Indian Constitution. They also hoped that the frictions between India and
Pakistan will be resolved bilaterally by following the Simla Agreement and the
Lahore Declaration.

India on August 5th revoked Article
370 of the Constitution and thus had scrapped the temporary special status that
is given to Jammu and Kashmir in 1954 and India also went to the extent of
bifurcating the state of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories - Jammu
and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

"We proceed from fact that the changes associated with the
change in the status of the state of Jammu and Kashmir and its division into
two union territories are carried out within the framework of the Constitution
of the Republic of India,"
the foreign ministry of Russia said.

Russia is one of the countries
that consistently supports the normalization of relations between India and
Pakistan.

"We
hope that the differences between them will be resolved by political and
diplomatic means on a bilateral basis in accordance with the provisions of the
Simla Agreement of 1972 and the Lahore Declaration of 1999,"
the
statement of foreign ministry added.

It also should be noted that India also received the backings of US and United Nations.
