Every Hindu practices are backed by scientific reasons. Similarly, there is a deep science behind the Hindu custom of eating food with their hands. Having food is a gift provided by the god and it should be done with the involvement of all the five senses to derive maximum benefit and pleasure from it.
The five senses are sight, smell, taste, sound and touch. Western food practices consider the first three of these senses but not the other two. It is must that food should look good, smell good and taste good but thatâs not sufficient as this donât make use of the other two senses of sound and touch.
If the hand is used
to eat, we use all five fingers for this purpose. Similarly if eating food has
to be a complete action, all the five senses should be taken into
consideration. So according to Indian traditions, no meal is complete unless we
serve something which produces a sound like crunching. The taste of food canât
be realized completely unless the sense of touch is used and the food is felt
with our fingers. Human beings are provided with five fingers by god to use as
spoons and generally children naturally use their fingers to put food into
their mouth. Western parents forces the child to use spoon and it is contrary
to the natural habit of using fingers to have food. Thus, the child uses an
artificial aid to have food instead of naturally using the fingers given by the
god.
