"Those engaged in saving our lives from the virus are equivalent to Gods", says CM Palaniswami
The CM quoted a Thirukkural to drive home the point.

A day ago, a doctor who died of COVID-19 was denied a decent burial when residents of the area resorted to violence and prevented the funeral. The incident evoked condemnation from all quarters. A teary eyed doctor released a video hurt by the apathy of the people to the frontliners who are putting themselves and their families at risk. In light of this, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said that the government would extend all support to the frontline workers for their efforts in combating the virus. He likened the people who are sacrificing their well-being for others akin to God.
"All those who are engaged in life saving efforts are equivalent to Gods", the CM said. He quoted the following Thirukkural to drive home the point.
பயன்தூக்கார் செய்த உதவி நயன்தூக்கின்
நன்மை கடலின் பெரிது.
Payanthookaar seidha udhavi nayanthookin
Nanmai kadalin peridhu
Which roughly translates to "Those who help others without expecting anything in return, the merit of the help rendered by such person is larger than the sea".
He expressed anguish over the incident and also conveyed his condolences to the family of the deceased. He assured that the government would take appropriate steps to prevent such incidents from happening.
"This government will stand by our doctors and field staff", said the Chief Minister.
So far, the TP Chatram Police has arrested 20 persons for opposing the funeral of the 55 year old doctor. 90 more persons have been booked for various offences.
