Wing Commander Abhinandan to be awarded with Veer Chakra award

The Indian government will honor the Air Force's Wing Commander Abhinandan, who is famously known for shooting down Pakistan's F-16 fighter jet, with Veer Chakra award.
44 CRPF personnel were killed in a suicide bomber attack by Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists last February 14 in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir. In retaliation, the Indian Air Force bombed the Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist camps in Pakistan's Balakot on February 26.
Subsequently, on February 27, Pakistani F-16 fighter jets entered into Indian territory. Abhinandan, the Wing Commander of the Indian Air Force, shot down one of the Pakistan's F-16 fighter aircrafts.
Abhinandan, who escaped by parachute got unexpectedly fell into the Pakistani territory.
By the under international pressure and the diplomacy of Narendra Modi government, Abhinandan was handed over to the Indian Army two days later on March 1 at the Wagah border.
The Indian Air Force recommended to the Central Government to honor Abhinandan with Veer Chakra award. Following this, the central government announced that Abhinandan will be given the Veer Chakra award during tomorrow's Independence Day.
